Your Sussex Wedding - Decmeber 2022/January 2023 (Issue 100)

THE SECRET TO OUR SUCCESS With 100 issues-worth of real wedding features behind us, I often wonder how our past couples are getting on, so it was wonderful to hear from Maria and Jessica whose big day featured in issue 82. Delighted to hear how happy they are together, I asked them to let us in on the secrets to their successful marriage. Maria says, “Firstly, start and finish the day with an 'I love you.' And get the in-laws to love you – mine calls me TLM (The Lovely Maria)! Continue to find common interests, in our case it's red wine, and revisit places that are special to both of you. For example, where the proposal was, where you got married, where you went on honeymoon. “We've had an amazing, eye-opening, life-changing three-and-ahalf years since getting married and we're very excited about the future.” The pair honeymooned in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand and were kind enough to share some of their gorgeous photos. cwe COUNTY WEDDING EVENTS @CountyWeddingMagazines @CountyWeddings @countyweddingmagazines Visit us online at county.wedding and countyweddingevents.com Your Sussex Wedding is 100 and doesn’t it look great for its age? That’s right, well into our 17th year of publishing, we’re celebrating our 100th issue! I’ve been the editor of this wonderful title since issue 75 and feel incredibly proud to have been part of its history. The first issue hit the shelves in 2006 with a venue focus on Brighton and boy have things changed since then! I managed to find a copy in the archives and dusted it off to find that fashions had more in common with the 1990s than they do the 2020s. Designs were all about taffeta, boned bodices and bags of embellishment – words I hardly hear these days in relation to wedding dresses. What’s more, it was rare indeed to see a groom not sporting a cravat. However, some things don’t change. Then editor Demelza, looking into the world of wedding planning, told readers: “Employing a planner can dramatically reduce the stress that sometimes occurs as a result of organising such a big event. Indeed, being able to speak to someone objectively, with plenty of experience in this field, will not only give you confidence about the running of your big day, but will also give you plenty of ideas and inspiration along the way.” And that’s as true now as it ever was. Vintage-themed weddings were equally on trend in 2006 and we featured the gorgeous real wedding of Laura and Jerome, where the bride looked every bit the picture-perfect image of Lady Mary, back when Downton Abbey was still a figment of Julian Fellowes’ imagination! Plus, many of the same suppliers were featured that we’re still proud to work with today. Your Sussex Wedding has been bringing local wedding content to nearlyweds for the best part of two decades, becoming a much-valued go-to source of inspiration and advice for many tying the knot in this gorgeous county. We exist to champion the local and very much hope that we can continue to do so for many moons to come. We’d never have reached this ripe old age (still looking good) without our lovely readers and Sussex’s amazing suppliers who’ve supported us all these years. A huge thank you to you all. Here’s to the next 100 issues! And as ever, keeeep planning! Kelly x Kelly Andrews, editor Issue 75 to 100... and beyond! Happy birthday to us!
