“Kristian hates roast dinners, so we had the best of both worlds. In the evening, we offered our guests Mexican food, as our first holiday abroad together was in Mexico.” DRESSED TO IMPRESS “I was dreading wedding dress shopping,” says Haley. “I would have worn jeans and trainers if I had my way, so going to a bridal shop really wasn’t my idea of fun. But, when I visited Jasmine-Rose Bridal Newport and tried on my gown, it was just perfect. Kristian chose a navy suit and grey waistcoat. We opted for grey suits with navy waistcoats for the groomsmen and blue dresses for the bridesmaids.” TIME TO CELEBRATE “For our entertainment, we wanted to keep things simple and decided to hire a DJ,” shares the bride. “We also organised a crisp wall, as Kristian is obsessed with them, a gin bar and a beer station so guests could pull their own pint. Everyone was able to have a drink, a bag of crisps and mingle. It was perfect.” MEMORABLE MOMENTS “On the morning of the wedding, our hair stylist cancelled less than one hour before she was due to arrive,” recalls Haley. “My maid-of-honour arranged for Sarah Marie Wedding Hair Specialist to come at the last minute. Sarah was amazing, so we were glad the other one cancelled. I was chilled and it was my maid-of-honour who was freaking out. My three little nieces came down early in the morning to get ready. We dressed them in their beautiful dresses and then the three-year-old decided to have an explosive poo. Thank God it wasn’t on the dress! My mother-in-law had to get in the shower and shower her off. It was carnage. We had to dry her off, then Sarah and the make-up artist, Sara Dymond, had to quickly redo her. The next 10 minutes were a blur. Everyone got stuck in to get us ready, from the photographers to the videographer to the make-up artist and hair stylist. It was all systems go. Something funny to share: my maid-of-honour put her dress over her pyjamas; there was no time to take them off, so she got in the wedding car, took her pyjamas off, and the poor driver had to deliver them to the venue. She then realised she had no underwear, so she went without! Looking back now, it was just so funny. “The speeches were incredible,” adds Haley. “The maid-of-honour and best men just blew us away. My cousin gave me away and made everyone cry. My dad died when I was 13, so he wasn’t there to give me away, but my cousin did it justice.” HONEYMOON “We had a mini-moon straight after the wedding where we got engaged,” explains the bride. “We felt like having our mini-moon there was closing a book and starting a new one. A couple of months later, we went to the Maldives. The highlight of that holiday was jet skiing out into the ocean to watch dolphins. It was incredible.” 43 REAL WEDDINGS
