48 CAKE HOUSE 21 Rachel from Cake House 21 (www.cakehouse21.co.uk) shares two of her favourite designs that incorporate personal touches. The three-tiered cake on the left is a sugar paste iced design that was hand painted and decorated to mimic the bride’s favourite tree from her parent’s garden. She wanted to commemorate her parents at her wedding, and I love how personal this cake was. Unfortunately, the bride had lost both of her parents, so it was an emotional delivery. Fresh flowers were chosen to match the couple’s colour scheme. The second cake is such a popular choice. It’s another three-tier design, but with taller tiers, which I love. The flowers were silk, as the bride was allergic to fresh flowers. I absolutely loved how this came together on the day. www.andrew-miller.co.uk www.rebeccawattsphotography.com GINGER BEAR BAKERY Zoe from Ginger Bear Bakery, a cake maker in Pontypridd, (www.facebook.com/thegingerbearbakery) shares two contrasting on-trend cakes. The vintage heart-style cake on the left is a huge trend for this year’s wedding season. I love the cake’s retro and vintage vibe and how the theme is being translated into the cake. This design is finished with soft piped buttercream frills and quirky wording that makes it personal to the couple. The second cake is a more traditional three-tier design with a contemporary look made using handmade folded wafer paper petals and quills. This style is very different from the heart cake, but I equally love creating this style. It is very elegant and modern and complements a lot of different wedding themes and I expect to see similar designs appearing throughout 2024. CAKES BY KATY Katy from Cakes by Katy (www.cakesbykaty.com) shares two of her creations: a classic white design that contrasts with a dark blue creation. I loved creating this darker-themed wedding cake. It’s still elegant, but steps away from the tradition of whites and subtle tones. I teamed it with dried flowers, which helped complement the nature-inspired textures in the sugar paste. Creating a classically elegant white-on-white wedding cake like the design on the right is so satisfying. I love making sugar flowers, with the aim of making them as realistic as possible. Teaming this with a hint of texture and sparkle on one tier really made this cake a centrepiece.
