Your South Wales Wedding - January/February 2024 (Issue 95)

IN BLOOM How do we choose a colour palette for our wedding flowers? Deciding on which colour palette to choose for your wedding can seem overwhelming. Take the time to look through images and start collating a little album of your favourites. Leave it for a few weeks, then go back and look again! Remember, flowers look so much better if they’re in season, as they are fresher, bouncier and have more personality. Tropical shades can look amazing, but if you’re going to use them in your flowers, then you will need to use greenery to allow the colours to pop. I love using natural elements that are brightly coloured to give a little element of surprise while keeping the flowers authentic. This is a great palette if you’re going for contemporary flowers. Pastels are also popular. This can mean any pale colour, not just pink and blue. Think pale lemons, oranges, and pinks. These colours work so well together, as they are fresh yet subtle. Rhian Rees www.wildandfabulousflowers.com DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY My wife-to-be and I are getting ready to book our wedding entertainment and were wondering what we should ask our chosen supplier before booking? When looking for a supplier, consider if you can put your own stamp on the entertainment. For example, we ask couples to choose songs to incorporate into their playlist to help tailor the night to their music tastes. You could ask if the supplier offers request cards so your guests can ask for songs throughout the night by either writing them down or using an online request app. Couples very often send out request cards with their invitations; however, we always try to discourage this, as, over the years, our experience has been that these playlists very rarely work, as what someone chooses while sitting on their sofa replying to a wedding invitation is usually very different from what they would choose at a wedding party. Try to make the setup as personalised as possible, such as by matching the lighting to your colour scheme for your first dance and a personalised projection of your initials. Here at Evolution Entertainment, we offer a standard white wedding setup with modern lighting and white speakers, as well as a rustic setup ideal for barn weddings. See what packages the supplier offers. For example, we have multiple packages so you can add those extra touches, including light-up love letters, festoon lighting, uplighters all the way and cold-spark indoor fireworks to add those extra touches to make your wedding your own. Andrew Davies www.evolutionentertainment.wales www.grahamdaviesweddingphotography.co.uk YOU AND ME, ALWAYS How long before the wedding should we book our venue and what should we ask before putting down a deposit? The ideal time to book a wedding venue can vary depending on several factors, including the popularity of the venue, the time of year you plan to get married and how flexible you are with your wedding date. As a general guideline, it’s recommended to book your wedding venue at least nine months to a year in advance, especially if you have a specific date or popular season in mind. It’s worth considering a last-minute wedding if you’re flexible on dates, as it can help you make substantial savings on your venue. We have a fantastic Whirlwind Wedding Package here at the King Arthur Hotel, which is available for certain dates within six months of the wedding. Before booking, set your criteria and create your perfect check list. Maybe the evening reception is a key part of the wedding for you. Does the venue allow live music? Does it have a late licence? Is the bar in the same room as the dancefloor? The amount of accommodation, the menus and the grounds are often other important factors. Your wedding venue should be a reflection of you as a couple, so look for a venue that will allow those personal touches to make it your unique day. Put together a rough list of names for the daytime and evening receptions, and check the venue’s maximum capacity. It would be disappointing to fall in love with a venue that could not hold your numbers. You will know when you have found the perfect venue because you will feel completely at ease there and confident that they will deliver your dream wedding! If you can see your friends and family enjoying drinks in the gardens or dancing the night away, then that is the venue for you.
