HOT TOPIC Wedding worries Our experts solve your problems DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY We’re having a large wedding with guests of all ages. What style of music would you suggest to please everyone? Songs from the classic era of soul to the Motown catalogue of Jackie Wilson, James Brown, The Real Thing, Billy Ocean, and Tina Turner are all dancefloor fillers. These uptempo, midtempo, and ballads are songs your guests will know, regardless of their age. Mike McNamara www.bigmacswhollysoulband.com www.nickfowlerphotography.co.uk DON’T RAIN ON MY PARADE It’s forecast to rain on our wedding day; should we be worried? The great British weather can certainly be unpredictable, but if you see rainclouds in the forecast, don’t panic! Discuss the wet weather options with your venue; chances are they have dealt with rainy weddings before and will be able to offer good advice. If you have planned an outdoor ceremony and the weather isn’t looking favourable, move it inside the venue. Set a specific time in advance when you’ll make the call to move the wedding undercover. This could be the night before or at least two or three hours prior to the ceremony start time. Don’t overcomplicate the decor; that way, if the weather suddenly changes on the day, it will be a smoother transition to get everything moved inside. Have a supply of umbrellas on hand for guests to use. Also, consider blankets and towels to keep your guests comfortable. Clear umbrellas are best for bridal party shots so that faces aren’t obscured, and they don’t cast shadows. Don’t forget your wellies and embrace the rain; it can make for some romantic photographs. Some of our favourite wedding images are taken in wet weather! Talk to your photographer about potential rainy photo locations. They will have experience with various weather conditions, so they can offer creative ideas for beautiful photos despite the weather. Group shots can be done indoors and look amazing with your dé cor as the backdrop. Look for covered areas, archways, and standout features. Most of all, remember to keep a positive attitude and enjoy your special day. Come rain or shine!
