Many of our guests had either not met one or other of us or hadn’t seen us since we were children, so it was the perfect opportunity to showcase the people we have become. I want to give a special mention to the registrar who conducted our wedding. He managed to perfectly balance the solemnity of the occasion with enough humour to make it just right for us. He was also very patient when our attention switched to our son now and again, who was happily walking around during the ceremony, oblivious to what was happening! I think the best word I can use to describe how I felt during the wedding is ‘proud’. Proud of my husband for everything he has achieved, for being a wonderful human being, for choosing to share his life with me, and proud of our boys, who were the real stars of the wedding. I love that we were able to include our boys in every part of our wedding; it wouldn’t have been the same without them. One of my best friends, Gemma, was with me on the morning of the wedding, and she was unflappable! She helped my family and I stay on schedule, lending a hand from zipping up dresses to reminding us to breathe and enjoy ourselves. We would never have gotten there on time without her! One of the standout moments for me was the best man’s speech. This was unorthodox, as it was delivered by Adam’s brother, three sisters, and mother. Each of them had their own take on the speech and shared some embarrassing moments from his life. 36
