Your North East Wedding - May/June 2023 (Issue 56)

Flowers were a huge part of our wedding, including a main centrepiece around the bar handmade by me, my mum Fiona and a group of close friends. My bouquet was a mix of toffee roses, cosmos, ammi and baby lace. Our table favours were ribbons in the colours of the day: dusty pink, burnt orange and olive green, with gold initials of each of our guests so they could take them away. I made our table plan using a white muslin throw and iron-on transfers. Hung from a clothes horse, we’ve kept the plan as a memento from the day. We had our reception in a marquee in the farmer’s field next to my parents’ house. I played in the field as a child, and always hoped I’d celebrate there when I got married. My three bridesmaids all wore different dresses in different colours – and it actually took longer to find their dresses than it did my own! I grew up in in Belsay, marrying at my family’s parish church where I spent a lot of time growing up. The ceremony was incredible – our vicar, Fiona, tailored it perfectly to us. 24
