As a bridal designer and bespoke dressmaker, there are several things to consider when choosing your wedding dress. Firstly, you’ll want to think about your wedding style – are you aiming for something boho chic, grand and glamorous, or more relaxed? This is the first question I always ask my brides. The style and feel of your wedding will help you decide on the type of dress that will keep everything cohesive. Where your wedding is held can also influence the style of dresses you’re considering. Barn and outdoor weddings lend themselves to more boho styles, while stately homes are better suited to glamorous and timeless looks. It’s easy to get caught up in what you should wear rather than embracing your own style and aesthetic. We all have a vision of what a ‘bride’ should look like, but that doesn’t mean you have to fit into that mold. Remember, you’ll be wearing this dress for a long time. Some corset styles are restrictive, big ball gowns can be heavy, and long trains can be cumbersome. So, think about what compromises you’re willing to make in terms of comfort. Finally, your choice is always the right choice. While the opinions of others and the considerations I’ve mentioned above can be helpful, it’s your dress – how you feel in it is the most important thing! Your bridal trial is an opportunity to perfect your make-up look, ensuring you walk down the aisle feeling radiant and confident. Here’s what to expect and how to make the most of your appointment. Preparation is key! Gather inspiration—pictures, videos or anything that reflects the style you envision for your wedding day. It’s also a great idea to wear a top in a shade similar to your wedding dress to see how the products will complement your overall look. During the consultation, your make-up artist will learn more about you, including your skin type, preferences, allergies and even whether you plan to tan before the big day. Open communication is essential to ensure you get a look you love that lasts beautifully from “I do” to the last dance. As your make-up artist works, they may ask questions like ‘Do the lashes feel comfortable?’, ‘Would you prefer a matte or glossy lipstick?’, or ‘How much coverage do you like?’. Don’t hesitate to speak up – it’s your time to fine-tune every detail to perfection! Once your dream wedding look is complete, photos and notes will be taken to ensure it’s flawlessly recreated on the big day. It’s also a good idea to wear your trial make-up for the rest of the day to see how it holds up and if any adjustments are needed. The trial is an enjoyable part of your wedding preparations, so relax, enjoy the process, and feel confident knowing you’ll have a look you’ll love.
