SIMON DEWEY PHOTOGRAPHY This talented photographer is for people who aren’t huge fans of wedding photography. Owner Simon Dewey rarely comes across people who enjoy having their photographs taken, which is why he does things a little differently. Imagine not needing to worry about the overdone and unremarkable photo rituals. No forced smiles, aching cheeks or awkward ‘what do I do with my hands’ moments. You won’t be pulled away by your wedding photographer from the people you want to spend the day with, instead you can be part of all those adrenaline-fuelled and love-buoyed interactions that are truly worth remembering. Instead of trying to orchestrate a feeling of wedding serenity and calm just for the photos, imagine choosing to embrace the nerves, the buildup, the tension in the room, the chaos, the doublechin laughter, the ugly cry and the toddler who won’t stand still and smile. Your wedding day will be a riotous, rousing and rollicking affair—let’s tell it like it is. Let’s get the picture-perfect moments and the almost unnoticed bits in between. All the photos, none of the photofaff. Simon is a friendly, slightly rebellious, awardwinning Derbyshire wedding photographer who’s been shooting candid, unstaged, documentarystyle wedding photos for over a decade. He uses photojournalism to capture the big, the small and the almost missed moments of unique weddings for freespirited couples who aren’t raving fans of traditional wedding photography. Sharing one of the most important days in someone’s life with them is an honour to the talented supplier. She says, “I believe it’s really important that you choose a photographer you feel comfortable around and have complete trust that they’ll capture your day perfectly. I will spend some time with you to get to know all about you and your world to understand what’s important to you. I’m friendly and discreet, try to make group shots fun to bring out your natural smiles and never forget the smaller details.” The photographer will be by your side all day, capturing every moment, and if you need a helping hand, she’ll be there for you. Whether that be to help pin your hair back up, help with your dress or even give a hug to settle any last-minute nerves – she goes above and beyond to ensure your day is nothing short of perfection. After the day, Georgina knows you’ll be dying to see some photos, which is why she also sends a few images over within a couple of weeks as a little preview. I usually say between 30 and 45 minutes, so you can take your time, add any accessories, and even have some spare time for some photos and maybe a little toast of bubbly. The last thing you want is to rush and get all hot and flustered, so give yourself plenty of time.” SIMON’S TOP TIP “Leave periods of unplanned time in the day when you and your partner can grab a few quiet minutes together and catch your breath. The day goes so fast, leaving gaps in the schedule will help you relax and enjoy the experience.” www.georginamaiphotography.co.uk 72
