Your London Wedding - September/October 2024 (Issue 97)

Chris worked as a Project Manager on commercial construction projects in central London. At the same time, Becky was and continues to be an interior designer specialising in workplace environments when they first crossed paths. Their initial meeting occurred during an interview that Becky held, and she was truly impressed by their work. That connection blossomed into a lasting relationship - the rest is history! Fast forward time, Chris proposed after organising a lovely long weekend trip to Vienna for Christmas. What a shock for Becky, who didn’t see it coming since they always take a pre-Christmas getaway together. Unfortunately, she got sick with food poisoning during the flight and wasn’t feeling her best. Despite that, he still popped the question later that weekend in a charming, serene park after they enjoyed breakfast at the art nouveau greenhouse, Palmenhaus. SETTING THE SCENE The couple aimed to create a simple, elegant wedding that reflected their London roots and focused on their unique love story. Becky shares, “Our goal was to make it our own without feeling pressured by tradition. After being together for six years, we already felt like a married couple; this wedding was about celebrating the partnership we built together.” From the beginning of the planning stages, it was evident that they envisioned a city wedding, especially since they live in East London, where Chris was born. The couple adores Islington and the Town Hall, embodying the elegant, timeless, and subtly sophisticated atmosphere they sought. The stunning architecture adds to its charm, and it’s conveniently located near some fantastic gastro pubs in London, making it an excellent spot for guests to gather beforehand! The Zetter Townhouse is absolutely beautiful, and the couple adored the stylish interiors. The Games Room was ideal for their evening gathering, accommodating 36 guests for a delightful sit-down dinner and celebration. The square and courtyard gardens outside provided a lovely backdrop for spring cocktails and memorable photos. A gorgeous vintage green Routemaster bus from the London Bus Company transported guests between settings. For the wedding breakfast, four round tables were thoughtfully arranged for the occasion. One table was set for Becky, Chris and their close family, another for the kids, and the remaining two were designated for friends. The space was adorned with lovely flower bowls and arrangements from Botanique Workshop in Islington, all inspired by the theme of an ‘English garden.’ These beautiful decorations graced the room and the fireplace mantel, featuring vases and cascading greenery to enhance the atmosphere. Since the room was already stunningly decorated, only a few touches were necessary! The venue provided a complete five-course sit-down dinner for everyone. Guests could choose their menu options ahead of time, making it a truly personalised experience. LOOKING THE PART The bride was certain that a classic white wedding dress wasn’t for her; she desired something that exuded timeless elegance and subtle glamour. Initially, she considered a trouser suit but discovered a breathtaking blazer from the Australian bridal boutique Bowie Rae. It reminded her of vintage Dior, and she instantly fell for it. She complemented the look with a delicate lace bodysuit and a sleek ivory satin midi skirt. The shoes held a special significance for her—grey satin Manolo Blahnik mules adorned with crystals.
