55 A showcase of African wedding culture with modern accents and a contemporary flair Images courtesy of Wolf & Co. Photography W edding planner, Gloria Darko of My Wedding Fixer set out to pay homage to African wedding culture by planning and designing this Afro-chic wedding shoot. Gloria says, “We delivered a subtle fusion of traditional West African-style art and décor with the modern contemporary feel of Western Europe and North America. Afro chic is the point at which these two ideas meet, blend and amalgamate.” Captured at The Orangery, Maidstone, the venue’s Garden Room creates a naturally stunning, bold, opulent and vibrant space to encapsulate the theme. The bespoke floral designs were an opportunity to include elements that sensitively draw upon cultural heritage in a way that’s both respectful and authentic, whilst marrying the design with the chic, fashion- forward interests of many a modern-day couple. The fabulous dresses speak of inclusivity and diversity, with the Afro-chic story perfectly echoed in the boutique’s values to help brides from so many different cultures and backgrounds. Then, the beautiful venue styling, cake and stationery all work in perfect harmony with model Jocelyn’s hair and make-up look embodying an effortless spirit of independence.
