Your Kent Wedding - September/October 2024 (Issue 116)

HOT TOPIC: WEDDING WORRIES Our experts solve your problems FALL IN LOVE Is there any way that we can incorporate the autumn season into our ceremony? Autumn weddings are just wonderful and can be very sustainable and economically rewarding because you will be using seasonal food and floral decorations. For your ceremony, you could create a space from a circle of pumpkins or include the ancient ceremony of handfasting (tying the hands together). This is a wonderful way to incorporate autumnal colours by using cords containing elements of orange, yellow and red and maybe some seasonal charms to decorate the ends. In early autumn, you have the lure of farm weddings, where you can hold your ceremony in barns, fields and even over an anvil! Imagine using straw bales as seats; these can be surprisingly comfy with a throw on the top. Later in the ceremony, a warming dram of whisky in a quaich, or ‘loving cup’, can lend an authentic Celtic edge before you jump the broom to celebrate your new lives together. Kate Mitchell www.celebrantkate.co.uk CHERISHED MEMORIES How can we find the perfect videographer for our wedding? I would start by looking at different styles of video. For example, are you looking for something cinematic or traditional? Make sure that whoever you enquire with can show you some examples of their work so you can get a feel for what they produce. Do they edit their videos in-house or subcontract? The edit can make a huge difference to the end product, so you might want to know if they are involved from start to finish. How the video is delivered might also be important to you; some videographers will provide a digital download, while others might offer video albums or USB sticks. Some will make a 10-minute highlight reel, while others might make an hour-long film, so this is also something worth considering. Experience is key. Find out if they have worked at your venue before and, even better, if they have worked with your photographer. You’ll find that experienced photographers can recommend videographers they particularly enjoy working with, so ask around and get recommendations; it could help to narrow down your search. If you are camera shy, you might be feeling overwhelmed by having a photographer and videographer for over eight hours. I get it! In this case, choose a videographer who is relaxed, can put you at ease, and can blend in with your friends and family. Autumn is my favourite time of year, and I absolutely love weddings during this season. The rustic settings, rich autumnal colours, and natural elements in abundance are what make autumn weddings truly special to me. Embracing a woodland setting is an excellent way to capture the essence of fall in your ceremony, and it also opens up so many excellent options for non-licensed venues for celebrant-led weddings. This rustic ambiance is perfect for DIY options, especially if you’re on a budget. Dried flowers for bouquets and centrepieces are often resold online, for example. Another advantage of an autumn ceremony is the early golden hour and softer lighting as the leaves change and the evenings grow shorter – one of the many reasons photographers are so fond of autumn weddings too!
