BLOOMING BEAUTIFUL How can we safely incorporate flowers and foliage into our big-day bake? Much discussion has recently been surrounding the safety of using flowers and foliage on cakes. This shoot’s primary purpose was to demonstrate how to use florals on cakes and offer alternative options safely. Preparation is key! It’s essential to ensure that the chosen varieties are safe and non-toxic and that they’re not treated with pesticides or harsh chemicals. Additionally, food-safe wires and tape must be used for preparation before inserting the wired flowers into the cake. An obvious alternative to using flowers is to use edible plants. In this case, we opted for borage, bay and rosemary, which I used to decorate our miniature cakes for our rustic and vintage tablescape. With our mossy backdrop, The Old Milking Parlour’s vintage dresser and the delicious aroma coming off the herbs, this theme was a delight for the senses. Finally, when I saw the golden hoop at The Old Milking Parlour, I knew I wanted to use it to create a showstopper piece! Sue from Old Chapel Flowers grows her blooms locally and provided us with ranunculus, tulips and scented narcissi in various soft shades of pinks, reds and yellows to create a stunning halo for the cake. I kept the bake quite minimalist and stencilled the entirety of it to add texture and depth. I hope this shows both couples and suppliers that you still have many options, although more thought and flexibility may have to go into how you want to decorate your wedding cake with beautiful blooms. How can I add something special to my big day? Looking for a wedding that will leave a lasting impression and be tailored specifically to you? A celebrant-led wedding is the answer! It offers a one-of-a-kind and completely personalised experience that sets your special day apart from the rest. Unlike traditional religious or civil ceremonies, a celebrant allows you to create a wedding that truly reflects your personality, beliefs and love story. Every ceremony aspect will resonate with you and guests, from unique vows to meaningful rituals and special readings or music. This level of customisation ensures that your wedding will be truly memorable and stand out as a genuine celebration of your unique journey together. Celebrants possess a unique talent for storytelling, weaving the couple’s past, present and future into a captivating narrative. This storytelling not only entertains but also fosters a deeper emotional connection between the couple, their guests and the significance of the occasion. With elements of humour, emotion and introspection, celebrant-led ceremonies offer a well-rounded and memorable experience for all. This personal touch distinguishes these ceremonies from traditional weddings, where the couple’s influence over the content and style is limited. Celebrant-led weddings provide a personalised and engaging experience and offer incredible flexibility when choosing the location and structure of the ceremony. The supplier can officiate weddings in various settings, from beautiful outdoor spots to unique venues that hold sentimental value for the couple. This adaptability also applies to the format and timing of the ceremony, ensuring a seamless transition throughout the wedding day. Whether the couple desires a small, intimate affair or a lavish celebration, a celebrant can tailor the ceremony to match any vision perfectly, creating a day as extraordinary and unique as the love being commemorated!
