Your Herts and Beds Wedding - December/January 2024/2025 (Issue 107)

REAL WEDDINGS 35 The couple preferred to avoid large centrepieces that might hinder conversation, aiming instead for a charming indoor/outdoor vibe. They also sourced delightful packets of wildflower seeds wrapped in floral and gingham fabric from an English Etsy shop. The couple gathered blankets, rugs, chests, chairs, baskets, a coffee table, and inflatable pouffe from different family members to set up two inviting corner spaces outdoors where everyone could sit back and unwind. One of these areas featured a box filled with outdoor toys for the kids, including giant Jenga and beanbag toss. The children played with these all day, bringing extra fun to the occasion. To ensure no one went hungry, guests indulged in canapés, an oyster bar, a wedding breakfast and a hog roast in the evening. The food was exquisite, leaving all the guests delighted. Liz’s father passed away in 2017, and she collected apples from his orchard, saving them for her wedding day without knowing who her future husband would be. Darryl prepared the apples and created an Apple Brandy compote to accompany the Champagne during the drinks reception. Liz shared, “The drinks were wonderful, and it was so special to have a piece of my dad with us on our big day.” A delightful two-tier cake from M&S was perfect for the wedding, enhanced by a lovely wooden cake topper from Etsy with the couple’s names beautifully engraved and some flowers, all elegantly arranged on one of Liz’s Dad’s vintage wine crates. Another delightful addition was the larger glass jars and pots filled with various bulk sweets. LOOKING THE PART Liz looked stunning in her Dante gown from Berkeley Bridal! The offthe-shoulder fitted mermaid design was adorned with lace, delicate beaded floral accents, and buttons trailing down the back. She accessorised with her mother’s pearl earrings, complemented by a new pearl necklace and bracelet. Her shoes, the Billie style from Rainbow Club, added the perfect touch. As a wedding gift, Darryl surprised Liz with a locket containing photos of her and her dad attached to her bouquet, allowing him to be with her as she walked down the aisle with her brother. When Liz first glimpsed herself on her big day, she was taken aback! She shared, “Getting ready with my bridesmaids and mum was a joyful experience. Seeing myself as a bride felt surreal; I was thrilled with how everything came together!" Darryl donned a stylish blue tweed checked three-piece suit, complemented by a sandy brown tie and matching pocket square. His groomsmen sported brown tweed suits, while the ring bearers wore elegant sage green tweed suits. Each of them had flowers pinned to their lapels and looked absolutely wonderful. The bridesmaids donned elegant silky dresses in a lovely dusky blue shade. The bride wanted them to coordinate perfectly, even though her stepdaughter was significantly younger. Fortunately, they discovered a design that suited both adult and teenage sizes, allowing everyone to look stunning together. The two little flowergirls wore charming pale lilac dresses adorned with sequined tops and delicate flower crowns. TIME TO CELEBRATE A talented pianist played during the ceremony and the drinks reception to ensure guests had a wonderful time. He was truly remarkable, even improvising when necessary, extending the song Liz walked down the aisle to. A lively folk band reminiscent of Mumford and Sons also kept everyone on the dancefloor all night with incredible energy. There was also a photo booth filled with fun props, allowing guests to snap pictures straight into a wedding book for the couple to cherish. This was a huge hit among the guests, providing loads of fun and resulting in some hilarious photos. The couple was on cloud nine all day! The bride shared, “It was
