REAL WEDDINGS 27 This couple first crossed paths in high school but reconnected during the 2020 lockdown, sparking their reconnection. Matt was captivated by Emily’s beauty. He admired her kind and caring nature and her wonderful sense of humour. Emily appreciated his kindness and sensitivity. He has a big, soft heart that she truly adores. After eight months of careful planning and just a week of seeking permission from Emily’s parents, Matt decided to propose during their trip to the Lake District. He had it all figured out for one of their hiking days, aiming for the summit of Ingleborough Peak. Although the exact date wasn’t set, it would be on the second day of their adventure. Matt felt he couldn’t hold off any longer and was worried Emily would discover the ring or the bottle of Champagne he had prepared for them after their hike. SETTING THE SCENE Right from the start of wedding planning, the couple wanted a day celebrating their love, surrounded by their dearest friends and family. However, they also had another important goal: to support local businesses. Most of their vendors were either family friends or small enterprises that they thoroughly researched. It also allowed Emily to use her creativity and create her own special touches to the wedding such as the signage, favours and children’s activity bags. St. Thomas’ Church held a special place in Emily’s heart as her family’s church, making it a meaningful spot for their vows. The reception at The Priory in Hitchin was just what they were looking for. The rustic and cosy atmosphere created an intimate setting representing their relationship. During their visit, the friendly and supportive team made the experience even more enjoyable. Matt had his heart set on a classic car to transport them to the second venue after the ceremony. They ended up with a stunning white Rolls-Royce adorned with a soft blush ribbon. The couple envisioned the centrepieces as the highlight of their wedding breakfast tables. They featured elegant gold flower stands adorned with stunning flowers and greenery that echoed the bouquets’ rich burgundy and soft blush hues. Each table was named after important locations in their relationship, such as where they first met, their initial vacations and other memorable spots. These names were printed and elegantly displayed in gold photo frames that complemented the centrepieces. The couple also chose rustic puzzle piece place settings from a small business on Etsy, adding a unique and personal touch to their event. A heartfelt addition to the day was a memory ladder showcasing all the loved ones who would have celebrated but had sadly passed on. The couple displayed their photographs in charming frames collected from charity shops to create a rustic vibe. The ladder was also adorned with a special candle that Matt lit during his speech and beautiful floral arrangements from the florist. The couple's unmistakable love for sweets and chocolate was beautifully showcased in their charming ‘His and Hers’ sweet favours. These were a delightful celebration of their love and were complemented by a sweet cart filled with all their favourite treats, a hit with the guests. A family friend crafted the wedding cake after the couple shared some inspiration images, and the florist provided beautiful flowers for that perfect final touch. With a deep appreciation for delicious food, the couple prioritised this element when searching for a venue. They opted for a barbecue buffet instead of the traditional three-course wedding breakfast. This decision turned out to be a hit, with Matt recalling, "We had gone for menu tasting session a few months before and decided exactly what we wanted to be served. This was great as it ensured everyone would eat something and nothing would go to waste." The lovebirds chose

Emily surprised Matt with a saxophonist to serenade their guests during the welcome drinks, a unique touch that set the tone for the evening. They also brought in a DJ for the evening reception, ensuring everyone had a great time. But the real showstopper was the magical photo booth mirror, a fun addition that quickly became a favourite among the attendees. If guests weren’t dancing, they were busy taking pictures in the photo booth, and the couple now has an entire album filled with those joyful moments to prove it! LOOKING THE PART Emily radiated beauty in her ivory A-line dress, complemented by a Bianco Evento veil adorned with pearls. It was the third gown she had tried on and instantly knew it was the perfect choice with joyful tears and the beaming smile lighting up her face. The bride says, “I wanted something timeless and elegant, which this gown reflected. I wanted pearls to feature, and putting subtle ones onto my veil allowed me to do just that. I wore some heeled sandals with silver embellishments, which nicely tied my jewellery into the outfit. I changed into Nike Air Force 1 shoes during the reception that my maid-of-honour personalised for me. I wanted something comfy enough to dance the night away while still being bridal. On the day, I honestly felt like a princess. It was everything I had dreamt of.” The groom looked sharp in a tailored navy suit from Moss, complemented by a burgundy cravat from Swagger & Swoon that perfectly matched the bridesmaids’ dresses. To add a touch of distinction, he chose an ivory waistcoat, setting himself apart from his groomsmen, who were dressed in simple navy suits. The younger bridesmaids wore lovely blush dresses from Next, while the page boys sported matching blush ties with suits from Suits n Dresses. Meanwhile, the older bridesmaids and the maid-of-honour looked stunning in outfits from Ever Pretty UK. MEMORABLE MOMENTS The big day was filled with countless special moments from beginning to end. Matt felt nervous but extremely excited to see Emily in the morning after being separated for 24 hours before the wedding day. He comments, “What stood out was how beautiful Emily looked and the surprise sax player that met us at the property. The team at our reception venue went above and beyond with the décor we had planned and exceeded every expectation.” It was the happiest day of Emily’s life, and she couldn’t wait to marry Matt. The only nerves she felt were making sure he turned up on time! But other than that, she was on cloud nine! She says, “Seeing Matt turn around at the bottom of the aisle was so special. His face lit up and made me feel so much at ease once I saw him. The ceremony was the most special part; it felt like we were in our own bubble. I was special seeing everything we had planned come together, and our vision come to life.” The vicar caught everyone off guard by leading a Mexican wave in the church during the wedding ceremony to celebrate the marriage. The couple was completely unaware that he would pull off such a surprise, and afterwards, everyone was buzzing about how fantastic it was. It was especially appropriate since he mentioned it was similar to what happens at football matches, knowing that many family members were devoted Luton Town fans. To make the day even better, the team triumphed over Everton that evening! The best man and made-of-honour ensured the whole day ran smoothly, from getting ready in the morning to sorting out any issues. They went above and beyond to ensure the day was as the couple had dreamt. They were fortunate to have Matt’s best man as Emily’s best friend, so his speech was extra special, based on both of them.
