The Scenery! Our county is just gorgeous, from wild Exmoor, across the open Levels to the rolling Mendips. Our farm venues come complete with some of those peaceful countryside views. The Style! Each farm has its own unique character, but if your kind of chic is shabby, rustic, festival or boho then this is where you'll find it. Old bricks, oak beams, fairy lights and bunting - yes! The Vibe! Kick back and relax with fields (and often animals) all around. Cosy campfires with haybale seats, orchard picnics and tractor rides, glamping and shepherd's huts galore. The Food! Lots of farms offer home grown options, or have great local catering links for seasonal, low food mile menus. They're also perfect for more laid back dining like hog roasts, BBQs, picnics and DIY potlucks - or there's going to be plenty of space for the full on sit down banquet too. The Photo Opportunities! Wedding photographers love a venue with lots of quirky corners, interesting architecture, fun props and panoramic views. Your album will be amazing, trust us. A newly launched wedding and events venue in the heart of historic Salisbury. The Wardrobe is a secret hideaway located to the rear of the Rifleman’s Museum. It is situated in the tranquil setting of the cathedral close and the wonderful garden leads down to the banks of the river Avon. With the rolling countryside beyond, it is difficult to imagine a better location within the Salisbury city limits for any outdoor event, be it a wedding reception, celebration or garden party. The walled garden is totally enclosed and private covering over half an acre. It also has numerous specimen trees including one of the finest copper beach trees in Wiltshire. The walled garden can be privately hired for your wedding, party or event. A marquee will be positioned in the beautiful garden (your choice of style) and we can accommodate up to 150 guests. For smaller numbers a reduced sized marquee is available. The on-site caterer is the award-winning Vanilla Catering & Events. Vanilla’s key ethics are attention to customer service and the use of top quality local ingredients. These result in bright, modern food styles presented with attention to detail in an unfussy yet friendly manner. A bespoke menu is created for each client and a complimentary wedding planner is provided to run your special day. An interesting fact: did you knowwhy we are we called TheWardrobe? The original building on the site was constructed in 1254. It was rebuilt in the 15th century and was used to store the robes of the Bishop of Salisbury; hence it was known as the “Bishop’s Wardrobe” or “The Wardrobe”! It’s one of three venues for hire on-site that also includes Quarry Wood, a stunning woodland spot where a wedding under a stretch tent can be held. Deer Park Barn is the third venue on the estate that’s best suited to intimate micro weddings. Partly grass and gravel with a covered loggia area, it’s a self-contained blank canvas ideal for a rural and rustic-inspired real wedding. The interior boasts exposed beams and rafters, repointed stone walls and a wooden floor. A large fireplace at one end provides a focal point and a photo backdrop when decorated for a wedding. Drinks and canapés can also be enjoyed in the courtyard while the wedding breakfast is served inside the main hall. Michelle and Chris met through mutual friends in June 2006. “We attended a group meal at Pizza Express in Salisbury where we couldn’t stop looking at each other,” Michelle tells us. “Chris proposed in August 2011 over dinner in Pizza Hut. He wanted to ask me in the same pizza restaurant where we had met but it was fully booked so he had to improvise! It was a complete surprise and I cried happy tears,” Michelle says. SETTING THE SCENE The couple chose Bowood hotel, spa and golf resort in Calne, Wiltshire, as their wedding venue. “I started researching venues online and the first one I came across was Bowood and it was love at first sight,” Michelle explains. “When we visited, the gardens, lake and grounds are what attracted us and we decided it was worth waiting the couple of months it took for the outdoor ceremony area to be licenced because we wanted an al fresco wedding.” The couple chose a pretty-in-pink and soft-blue colour theme to style their day. Their bouquets and table arrangement created for their sweetheart top table contained fresh flowers that set the theme. “We had a welcome message, table plan “Our photographer, Simon, is also a friend who did such a fantastic job on the day and during the lead-up to our wedding. We really couldn’t have asked for more.” − Michelle and Chris REAL WEDDINGS 23

and an order of the day board all presented on wooden easel stands,” Michelle tells us. “The entrance to the reception room featured ceiling draping and star lights which look so romantic and our table centrepieces were decorative bird cages and vases brimming with faux flowers presented on log slices surrounded by tea lights. Our place name cards finished the look printed with a fabulous floral design.” Michelle and Chris chose a five-tier cupcake featuring different flavours. “The top tier was a small semi-naked cake that we kept for ourselves,” Michelle explains. “It held a custom-made ‘Mr & Mrs Mitchener’ cake topper.” The catering options included canapés served with drinks after the ceremony. “A delicious three-course wedding breakfast was enjoyed by all followed by a pizza station and pasta and salad stand during the evening,” Michelle says. “The sweetie cart went down a treat and almost all of the food went.” LOOKING THE PART Michelle chose an ivory and sand-coloured dress (style MB4037) by the designer Marys Bridal at Belle of the Ball Bridals in Melksham. “I had tried on a few different dresses of what I thought I wanted but this was the complete opposite!” Michelle says. “As soon as I put it on, I walked towards the mirror and burst into tears! I teamed it with a matching lace finger-tip veil.” Chris wore a navy Ted Baker suit with an ivory silk patterned waistcoat, white shirt, dusky pink cravat, brown shoes and odd socks! “One sock was printed with a picture of my face,” Michelle tells us. “Our groomsmen all wore matching navy suits teamed with blue waistcoats and dusky pink cravats. They looked great alongside our beautiful bridesmaids in their blush-pink dresses.” TIME TO CELEBRATE Michelle and Chris hired Wiltshire-based harpist Katie Salomon to perform during the ceremony and drinks reception. “The background music played while we said our vows and our first dance song was played by my late stepdad who had recorded a few albums over the years,” Michelle tells us. “We had the magician Stephen Charrett entertaining our guests during our wedding breakfast who was a big hit with both the adults and children with his incredible sense of humour and the little ones also enjoyed the bouncy castle and inflatables. During our evening reception, we had a DJ, a sparkler isle, a photo booth by Jay at Eventimate which was busy all night and a seven-minute fireworks display as the grand finale which was the most talked-about entertainment! After our guests had all gone, our DJ played one last song and we enjoyed a private last dance to end our perfect day.” “We decided to have a sweetheart table instead of a traditional big table so that we could take a bit of time out for ourselves during the wedding breakfast.” − Michelle and Chris 25 REAL WEDDINGS
