When my daughter was born, I wanted to remember all the little details and the big milestones. I’ve always been the person with a camera at weddings and family events – I love capturing special moments! What do you offer newlyweds? Everything starts with a chat and often a cuppa! Here I want to know all about the wedding from the guest list, if pets are coming, any treats or surprises lined up. We would discuss what you're looking for and devise a plan to deliver on these expectations. I always offer pre-shoots to get everyone comfortable and relaxed for the big day. The venue, colour scheme and theme discussions are a vital part of my planning process as these set the tone as to how I edit the images and the overall feel. What’s your favourite part of the job? I enjoy going back over the images to almost relive the event, like the speeches that can often be joyful and emotional. I’ve witnessed a bride’s daughter hand the groom adoption paperwork, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room – including mine! What advice can you share with nearlyweds? It’s your day, so be picky with everything from your guest list to your suppliers. Have an unplugged day by asking guests to put their phones down and let your photographer take the pictures. I took a point-and-shoot camera on a safari holiday in Kenya 16 years ago and within two months, my wife bought me a Canon EOS 400D and Tamron 70-300mm lens for Christmas. I started mainly with sports photography as a hobby before turning into a full-time photographer about seven years ago. These days, the photography and lighting kit is vast compared to where it all started. What do you offer newlyweds? I offer creative wedding photographs using a drone or setting up a fivelight system, sometimes with gels and flares. I love photographing and flying the drone while being a big part of weddings. When returning to repeat venues, I constantly push boundaries and do something different with my couples. What advice can you share with nearlyweds? Ensure your photographer is approachable, knowledgeable and can use light on those darker days while blending into the background. They'll be with you for up to 13 hours on a long summer’s day if you also have twilight pictures done – you must get along with them. I have done wedding photography for about 20 years, but I decided to specialise in curvy and camera-shy couples after my own wedding. I’m a larger girl, and it takes a photographer's care and attention to know exactly how I need to look to love the outcome. I realised I could not be the only woman anxious about the images. What do you offer newlyweds? I offer pose sessions in my Worksop studio, where we can do private sessions if you’re not feeling confident. We can shoot tethered so you can see the outcomes to work with us to develop poses that work for you before going somewhere in public, like a local garden, to get more confident in front of the camera. What’s your favourite part of the job? I enjoy sending the images to my clients as I edit their wedding photos and hear their reactions! It’s great when they love the shots, but I also appreciate it when they ask me to change or tweak things, as those little things make all the difference. What advice can you share with nearly-weds? Leave plenty of time for photos! You will need 40 minutes for group shots and then at least an hour for couple portraits, which is often the quietest and most intimate part of the day.
