Prep for the big day! How to create your dream wedding VENUE CHECKLIST When searching for our dream wedding venue, what should we ask potential properties? Choosing the perfect wedding venue can feel like an impossible task, with so many dazzling options out there. But once you’ve shortlisted your favourites and are ready to start those all-important viewings, it’s time to arm yourself with some key questions. •Venues have different capacity limits for daytime and evening guests, so clarify these numbers early on. •If your venue offers accommodation, find out how many guests can be hosted on-site. •Check out the getting-ready rooms and consider the lighting, décor and overall space – these will all affect your photos and the comfort of your wedding party. •Find out whether another wedding is happening at the venue the day before or after. This could impact the time you have to prep. •Make sure you’re happy with the venue’s food and drink options. Ask if you can arrange a tasting (and whether there’s a cost for this). •Table layouts! Some venues stick to traditional layouts, while others offer flexibility. Ask about table shapes, top table arrangements and seating configurations. •Make sure the venue’s entertainment rules align with your vision. Ask about sound limiters, curfews and space for DJs or live bands, and noise regulations. •Check whether fun extras like fireworks or confetti cannons are allowed – some venues have restrictions, so it’s best to ask before making grand plans! Our cut-off point for guest numbers and dietary requirements is usually two weeks before the wedding day, but I can invariably accommodate my clients with whatever they need – as we all know, things change all the time! Someone may be sick and unavailable to attend, or the children are not playing ball, so really anything can happen. At a previous wedding we catered, we had table settings change on the morning of the wedding. So, being able to adapt to changes in plans at the last minute is a requirement for any catering company. We respect that it’s your special day, so we want everything to run as smoothly as possible.
