The bows were made using green velvet, William Morris Winter Berry (to match the napkins) and even some duchess satin from my grandma’s wedding dress. We had The Helen Ashton Band play a number of classics and a few Christmas hits, we also had a DJ to keep the dancefloor alive when the band was finished – a worthwhile investment as the floor was full from start to finish. Our photographer Gina went above and beyond, she felt more like a coordinator as well as a photographer, she guided us throughout the day and made us feel at ease. Her photos are very natural and capture the essence of the day. I would recommend her to anyone. It was the best day of our lives (so far!). We felt very loved and honoured that everyone was there for us. It really is the most incredible feeling that no one can prepare you for, we wish we could do it all again. A particular highlight was watching my grandma dance the night away, something I’d not seen before but now know where I get my love of dancing at weddings from! The speeches also hold very special memories for us both. Delivered by father-of-the-bride, groom, and best man, all were very well written and delivered, with personal touches and emotion plus slight humour in each. Everyone we spoke to afterwards mentioned how special the speeches were. We had a three-tier cake decorated with fairylights and flowers (wax flower and soft ruscus to match the other flowers). The flavours were Biscoff, classic vanilla and carrot cake – it was delicious. Owen Mathers, an illustrator, was a great success; many guests were able to take home a ‘couples’ portrait’ – it felt unique as we hadn’t experienced this at any other wedding before. 44
