Choosing the perfect photographer for your big day can feel stressful. Trying to find a supplier that you get along with, that suits your budget and fits the vibe of your day can feel impossible, but don’t panic; there is a supplier out there for everyone! Once you’ve chosen your venue, start looking for your photographer right away. Especially if you’re planning a summer wedding, as photographers can get booked up years in advance. If you’re not sure where to start, when I got engaged, I looked through wedding magazines, websites and Instagram to narrow down our list to five potentials. We emailed all of them and asked for their brochures and price lists. Once they’d all responded, we looked through the images and decided on the style that we liked (the fun part) and how much we wanted to spend (the not-so-fun part). We organised video chats with two of them and felt an instant connection with the photographer who was recommended to us by a friend. He was lovely and put us both at ease right away, so we decided to hire him. If you’re feeling nervous in front of the camera, I recommend organising a pre-wedding shoot. We decided to book one, and although we were very nervous, I’m so glad we did it. It’s a great way to get to know your photographer and see how they work before the wedding day. Plus, you’ll come away with some beautiful images that you can use on your big day stationery. To help you find a photographer, we’ve put together a feature introducing some of the region’s best suppliers. Happy planning! Melissa x Melissa Cullen, Senior Editor Ready, set, plan! A ROMANTIC SETTING The Maltings, a new venue in Weybourne, has opened its doors. Perfect for mini-moons, The Maltings’ restoration has been a three-year project, taking inspiration from its North Norfolk location and its history as both a supplier to local brewers and an artist’s studio. The old malthouse is now a destination to eat, drink, sleep, play, explore and discover, blending tradition with modern comfort, style and service. The results can be seen everywhere, from the 28 rooms spread across the main house and the old stable blocks that reflect the spirit of the area to the double-height restaurant, The Grain Store. Philip Turner, the founder of The Chestnut Group and who has overseen the transformation, says: “A big house should be a oneof-a-kind place to stay. The Maltings will be just that. We will welcome guests who want an elevated experience. By that, we mean an environment people enjoy being in, focusing on high-quality ingredients, service, and style – but at the same time, a setting that is effortlessly relaxed. We want guests to feel at home here. We want to be a hub for locals as well as for people who come from much further afield. We want to be the home of good times shared with family and friends.” Check out www.themaltingsweybourne.com for more information. For more information, visit www.nogardcreations.co.uk SKY’S THE LIMIT Gemma C Photography, a talented wedding photographer based in Suffolk, is now offering a drone service. Owner Gemma Cook tells us more: “I’m 27 and, at the age of 14, my dad took my sister and I to some photography workshops and from there I never left the camera. Sadly, two years ago, my dad passed away from terminal cancer at the age of 60. I hope I always make my dad and my family proud by photographing weddings and families, but without him, I would not have learnt so much about cameras. So in a way, my photography is always in honour of my dad. Over time I have learnt different techniques that have helped develop my small photography business. For example, I recently bought a drone and learnt how to use it for weddings. I am looking to explore more drone footage with weddings booked in 2025 and 2026.” To find out more about Gemma C Photography, visit the website www.gemmacphotography.com FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa has announced the arrival of its new executive head chef, Mark Tomeo. All things bright Molly and Chris opted for a colourful celebration at Fordham Abbey Images courtesy of Megan Rose Photography AND BEAUTIFUL Molly and Chris met when they were both working at a racecourse. “We had a team-building day, at which point we had never met and were partnered against each other,” says Molly. “Sparks soon started flying, and we found out we are very competitive! A few months after dating, we travelled to New Zealand and Hong Kong in a van with a tent on top of it. Chris soon learnt my love of planning everything and I discovered Chris’ love of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc Wine! Everyone thought it was going to be a disaster trip, but it was the start of our amazing adventure in life together and we can’t wait to take our two boys back.” Chris proposed in Saint Lucia while the couple were on a family holiday. “It was a complete surprise and totally magical,” shares the bride. “We drove around the island looking for waterfalls, and by the third attempt, with Chris becoming more agitated, we decided to settle for a beautiful beach, where he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. What is so special is that he designed the ring with my uncle, who is a jeweller in Hatton Garden, London. He asked my mum for permission the night before, as she wouldn’t be able to keep a secret!” Read on to see some of Molly’s favourite moments from their big day... REAL WEDDINGS 31

I made all of our centrepieces, which told the story of why our wedding date was so special to us. Fordham Abbey was recommended to us and we jumped at the opportunity to have our wedding there. We had a blessing in the Japanese Gardens, which was totally breathtaking, and by incorporating our bright and bold flowers, we got to add our own personal touch. Following this, we invited our friends and family to follow us into the walled garden, which is where the guests got to truly relax and enjoy themselves before the wedding breakfast in the barn. Following the wedding breakfast, we invited everyone to head down to the market square for music and a bar, equipped with a photo booth, horse trailer and glitter station. We got to take all of our guests on a journey with our wedding, with new parts of the venue being discovered throughout the day. Our wedding date was special to me as it’s the same wedding date as my mum and dad. Our wedding favours were made by my mother-in-law. She created mini bags full of sunflower seeds for our guests. For the children, I created a wedding booklet along with a Lego set. We also included some Japanese sweets to keep the Japan theme flowing after our beautiful wedding ceremony in the Japanese Gardens. The flowers made my day! Wild Clover Flower Company took my vision and brought the whole thing together. We had beautiful sunflowers along with bright blooms, which just added so much to the day. Our friend Hannah from Hannah’s Cake Box made our two-tiered wedding cake for us; it was lemon drizzle with a limoncello filling. We were told the cake was delicious, not that we got to try any on the wedding night as it went so fast! We had the amazing Pickled Ginger Catering deliver the best canapés and food throughout the day. 32

My dress was from Blush Ely. Sarah and Alice, who work at Blush Ely, are our close friends, and it was a wonderful experience to share with them. I wanted a dress that wasn’t fussy and was classic. Sarah helped me every step of the way and added the extra belt and hair accessories to complete the look. I felt like a princess! My mum’s speech was truly beautiful; it made us laugh, cry and smile. It was so nice to have her speak at our wedding. We got to celebrate our special day with our two boys, which was lovely as our eldest son still talks about it, and when our wedding song comes on, he sings it. When we got our wedding video back, it made him cry, which was just adorable to see. Having an hour to ourselves to take photos and just have a moment to be with each other was our favourite part of the wedding. We loved seeing everyone, but once the day starts, you don’t really get to speak to each other until it’s time for bed! Chris wore a charming blue suit from Next. We both felt very nervous about the day, but once it got started, we spent it laughing and having the best time. Our friend James did a wedding blessing for us and it was so beautiful and personal. We have known James since our first move down to Epsom, and he has been a wonderful friend. We couldn’t think of anyone else we’d rather do the blessing for us on our special day. My mum and mother-in-law hired a magician as a surprise for our guests during the canapés and drinks, which was a huge hit. We hired a nanny to help look after the children, which gave all the adults some time to enjoy themselves, and the children loved all the entertainment they provided! In the evening, we had a DJ who was amazing, and we provided the guests with blow-up music instruments and giant glow sticks. We also had a photo booth with a glitter station, which was such a hit! Most of our friends and family had glitter on them and our photo book is full to the brim with photos from the evening! REAL WEDDINGS 33

OUR DREAM DAY Emma and Bradley celebrated their big day at Swynford Manor with a black, white and sage colour scheme Images courtesy of Helen Jane Photography 36

Emma and Bradley met each other online. “We had a short first date due to being interrupted by a pub quiz,” says Emma. “I was attracted to Bradley because of his kind nature and good looks.” Bradley proposed in Portugal on Emma’s birthday. “It was a complete surprise,” shares the bride. “In fact, I had no idea and he kept insisting that we went for a walk along the beach after dinner, but at this point it was really dark, so I questioned it. He ended up proposing back at the hotel and I was in complete shock, but it was perfect.” SETTING THE SCENE “Swynford Manor was very different from what we had been looking at; we had explored rustic and converted barns, but they just weren’t ticking all the boxes,” explains Emma. “We walked into Swynford Manor and just fell in love with it. The fact that it had bedrooms on-site meant that we could extend the festivities and have loved ones stay and share breakfast with us the next day.” The couple handmade their favours. “We used butter biscuits, white fondant icing and a stamp with our initials and date of the wedding on,” recalls Emma. “It meant we had a personal touch for the day and it tied in with our ‘branding’. “Our fabulous stylist Tasha from Styled By Lulabelles created our table plan,” continues the bride. “We wanted the plan to be on a white background with black writing. To decorate the rest of the space, we had a floral moongate that sat behind the top table and a personalised neon light that had our married name on, which completely fit in with our theme. As for the chairs, we opted to have white and sage weaves on black chairs. We felt that it really suited the venue and tied everything together. Around the entrance of the room, we had photos of Bradley and I with our black labrador from our engagement photo shoot with Helen Jane Photography. As well as these photos, we also had a memorial area for those who couldn’t be there, so we could honour their memory.” Heidi Appleyard Floral Design created the couple’s centrepieces. “We had shared that our theme was white, black and sage with Heidi,” reveals Emma. “We wanted something timeless and gave Heidi a few ideas in terms of flowers and then let her have full reign over the design. We knew we wanted hydrangeas, roses and eucalyptus, but the rest was all down to her. She even added fairylights, which elevated them in the evening once it was dark. Heidi added black bunny tails to my bouquet, which really stood out against my dress. At Swynford Manor, there is a staircase that is a focal point, so we wanted to incorporate flowers there to really show it off. We also had flowers in the ceremony room as well as the reception space.” For their wedding cake, Emma and Bradley hired Regency Cakes to create a three-tiered design. “We knew we wanted to incorporate our black labrador, Daisy, in there somewhere,” remembers Emma. “We spoke with Regency Cakes, who were incredible to work with and were open to all our ideas. We ended up with three different flavours, and it was decorated with icing, sequins and confetti. Daisy was then added to the cake in fondant form and also in model form, with her taking a little nibble out of the cake. Bradley also made his infamous chocolate brownies, which also went down a treat! “All of the catering was provided by Swynford Manor,” adds the bride. “We had canapés for the drinks hour, which were incredible and then a threecourse sit-down meal followed by bacon and sausage baps in the evening.” DRESSED TO IMPRESS “I wore a Sophia Tolli wedding dress called Darcy,” says the bride. “When I visited Birdcage Bridal Boutique, I tried lots of different styles and I was made to feel incredible. This was the third dress that I tried on and I felt the square neckline really suited my shape and the A-line skirt really cinched in at the waist. What was different is that this dress came with a cape, so it was different REAL WEDDINGS 37
