Q&A Fashion & Beauty Local experts offer advice on how to look your big-day best REST AND RELAXATION I’m feeling stressed in the run-up to my wedding and my friend has suggested I visit a steam room or sauna. What are the benefits? A steam room has proven that it helps reduce stress, raises your metabolism and improves your complexion. The heat from the steam causes the blood vessels in the skin to expand, meaning an increase in blood flow and circulation around the body; this will help alleviate any aches and pains. A steam will also work to hydrate dry skin, enhance the development of collagen and give the skin a really good cleanse! During the winter months, the steam room can help ease the symptoms of a cold and also help boost your immune system. By raising the body’s temperature above normal, it will help you sweat out impurities, hopefully helping you avoid any winter bugs. Saunas are well known for their anxiety-relieving properties, as the heat releases endorphins. Saunas are seen as important stress relief in Finland, which is often cited as the happiest country in the world! Did you know that 99 per cent of the population of Finland uses a sauna at least once a week? On top of the stress relief, one of the biggest benefits of a sauna is the detox that it gives the body. Saunas also work to improve circulation, improving both the complexion and helping to relieve pain. There are so many ways to add a little spring to your wedding jewellery. My first thoughts are to incorporate some subtle hints of colour. Look for jewellery in mixed metals, such as rose gold and silver or yellow gold and white gold, to bring some warmth and freshness. If you’re not shy about colour or sparkle, look for jewellery with gemstones such as tourmalines and sapphires. These gemstones have a beautiful range of tones, ranging from bold and vibrant to soft and subtle. Pale pinks and woodland greens are my favourites and showcase the beauty of the season perfectly. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something more traditional or prefer things simple, diamonds are a classic and timeless addition to any dress or suit and won’t clash with your hair, make-up, or other wedding day accessories. If you’re a pearl lover, even better! Pearls are a great way to add subtle colour and softness without breaking the bank. Think of softness in the shape and design of the jewellery. Think flowing lines, twists, curves, soft edges and jewellery with movement; for a more literal approach, leaves, twisting vines, budding florals and delicate and dainty touches of nature are all winners when it comes to marrying up your spring wedding vibes with your jewellery for the day.
