Celebrate in style In spring and summertime, ceremonies are held in the ornate outdoor pavilion overlooking the lakes and gardens, while in the autumn and winter, the grand Orangery provides a magical setting with its oak beams, floor-to-ceiling glass panels and wood burner. Both can seat up to 165 people. There’s a choice of versatile spaces for after the ceremony, including a bar adjoining the Orangery and terraces and the topiary courtyard with fountains and outdoor seating, not to mention a personalised gin and cocktail bar. The hall was originally on three separate floors, where barley was added to water and then stored on the first and second floors before being passed to the drying kiln, which is now home to a stage. The building passed through various ownerships, and in 1971, the building was made available to the ‘City of Ely Urban District Council’ for a minimal cost, who converted it into a public hall. The restaurant area was separated from the rest of the building and is now home to Ta Bouche. The Maltings building itself soon returned to operation as the venue you see today and continues to grow its activities.
