FASHION 47 THE BEAUTY EXPERT Karen Aylett is the founder of Be Simply Beautiful, a Devon-based vegan and cruelty-free make-up artist. Karen tells us what bridal make-up trends are in vogue for weddings this year. •“Understated beauty is in! Glass-effect skin continues to dominate, and a dewy and radiant complexion will still be a focus of 2025 brides.” •“Make-up that enhances your features and creates a refined look is taking centre stage for timeless, elegant photos. No more covering your pretty freckles, if you’re lucky enough to have them!” •“Using just a touch of eyeshadow instead of an eyeliner pencil will create beautiful eyes, giving a much softer, natural look while still enhancing them.” •“Blush is big this year! Plenty of blusher diffused across the cheeks brings a youthful romantic flush, and adds warmth and colour.” •“Glossy lips are in! Lipgloss formulas are no longer thick and sticky, but light and sheer with added sparkles to add that touch of natural bridal sophistication.” •“Not a fan of shine? Want something to truly stand out? Red lips are big this season believe it or not. They are incredibly timeless and complement black and white photography like no other colour.” •“Bronze eyelids with gold or champagne shimmer are the most requested look by brides that will continue to feature in 2025.” •“Brows are going natural this year! We will see less lamination and brows that are brushed to the side instead. They’ll also be straighter rather than curved.” HOW TO ACHIEVE THIS YEAR’S TRENDS: “Naturally glowing, healthy skin takes a lot of dedication,” Karen tells us. “I meet so many clients who don’t have a skincare routine at all because they either feel like they don’t need it, or think it’s too time-consuming. Skincare is self-care and takes no more than 10 minutes to complete morning and night. Your skin is exposed to so much during the day (pollution, dirt and bacteria ) but does an incredible job of repairing itself while you sleep. We all know that drinking plenty of water, eating healthily and getting exercise are key to so many things, but your skin will also really benefit from a routine that’s plant-based, free from harmful chemicals, and using natural ingredients where possible. It takes around three months to see a real improvement so start planning early. Seek skincare advice from a variety of beauty companies (not necessarily high street brands) and try lots of samples before committing to a skincare routine. Look for ones that offer a ‘refund or replace’ guarantee even if you have used the products. Treat yourself to a few facials too. They’re fabulous for targeting specific skin concerns, removing blackheads and milia, and hydrating your skin. If your skin is dry and flaky, your make-up will look dry and flaky too, and no one wants that look on their very special wedding day. https://besimplybeautiful.co.uk www.facebook.com/Besimplybeautifulplymouth www.instagram.com/besimplybeautiful_makeupartist https://unsplash.com 47 https://unsplash.com
