Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - March/April 2025 (Issue 54)

38 hilarious to look back on!” The couple chose a powder blue theme to decorate their day. “We opted for four long tables over round ones, as we felt they looked more dramatic,” Emily says. “We didn’t have table names but created a seating plan and my cousin, Katy, who is a talented calligrapher designed and made the place names for us.” On the tables in the marquee, Emily and James had textured table runners with candles and long floral displays placed down the middle of each one. These featured plenty of foliage including eucalyptus and also blue hydrangeas. “Our cake was a simple two-tiered design made for us by my grandparent’s neighbour,” Emily says. “It was decorated with flowers and greenery from my grandparent’s garden that my grandmother picked and arranged on the morning of our wedding.” LOOKING THE PART Emily wore the silk Eva gown from the Italian designer Peter Langner that she purchased from Browns Bride in London. “I originally visited thinking I wanted a classic Vivienne Westwood column dress with a fitted silhouette, but my mum told me to try on the Peter Langner style,” she tells us. “As soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one. My bridal shoes were Loeffler Randall’s Kimora heels in pearl white and for the evening reception, I changed into a Galvan evening gown, bought secondhand on eBay. It was inspired by Caroline Bessett-Kennedy’s iconic wedding dress which I have always loved. The simplicity of it felt just right for our evening reception and I teamed it with an oversized ostrich feather boa.” James wore a navy custom-made suit featuring a powder blue lining inscribed with his and Emily’s initials and their wedding date. “He finished his look with an ivory waistcoat,” Emily says. “The groomsmen (and one groomswoman) wore navy suits featuring powder blue silk waistcoats.” Emily’s bridesmaids’ dresses were her something blue. “They each wore blue chiffon gowns from the high street brand Wallis,” Emily tells us. “The dresses featured tiny bead detailing which beautifully captured the light on the dancefloor. They finished their look with earrings and blue chain bracelets from Ballinger which is my own jewellery company.” TIME TO CELEBRATE The couple hired a Devon-based band called Mammoth to entertain their guests. “They were incredible and so many people told us they had never seen such a full dancefloor at a wedding before!” Emily tells us. “They got everybody up and dancing and having the best time. We didn’t do a traditional first dance, instead, my bridesmaids and I danced to Wannabe by the Spice Girls. We also hired fire performers to entertain everyone with a fire show which was a huge hit, and we gave our guests sparklers. We also hosted a family tug-of-war with a giant rope and it got very competitive and silly as everyone had enjoyed a few drinks by that point!” “Our catering company Pickle Shack and our photographer Benjamin Wheeler went above and beyond on the day, helping with last-minute changes due to the weather and more.” - Emily and James REAL WEDDINGS
