Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - January/February 2025 (Issue 53)

After not wanting to wear a veil, after a second dress fitting, I asked to try on a cathedral-length veil and loved it so it was purchased! Our guests were served canapés whilst we were having our couple portraits taken in the woods. At our wedding breakfast, the starters included Thai-style fishcakes, cucumber and sesame salad, chilli and lime dressing. The main course, served with seasonal vegetables was stuffed barrel chicken breast and dessert was Baileys Creme Brulee with candied orange peel and shortbread. The mezze was a delicious cheese platter. For our place names, we chose black, laser-cut, acrylic names in italics, which stood out within our table styling. I’m not keen on clothes shopping. Luckily for me, there’s a bridal shop in Tavistock called Bridal Reloved that sells pre-owned designer dresses or samples at a fraction of the cost. In my eyes, this is not only good for the environment, but also great for the purse! I chose a fit-and-flare Madi Lane dress in Chantilly lace with sequin detailing. It featured a latte-colour underskirt with the option of removing the bell sleeves to create a different look. I found a pair of kitten heel shoes that had similar lace and pearl detailing on them, to which I added some words to the sole of the shoes, as a nod to my late dad. To feel that they were there with us, we wanted to include both sets of parents that we’ve sadly lost, as well as my brother, who passed away when he was born, on our big day. We made a memory ladder with a photo of each parent on each step, and at the top, there was a vase with my brother’s name on it and a forget-me knot planted within. Pink and white flowers climbed the sides of the ladder. A welcome sign was made, decorated with pink flowers, draped with material and styled with fruit crates at the base of the easel. We purchased a secondhand sweetie cart and redecorated it to fit our theme, which when full of sweets, went down a treat with our guests! REAL WEDDINGS 37
