Winners from Cornwall include: Great Taste 3-star: Cornish Yarg from Lynher Dairies Cheese Company (www.lynherdairies.co.uk) Great Taste 2-star: Lindsay’s Cranberry, Apple & Orange Marzipan Festive Pie from Tanglewood Kitchen (www.tanglewoodkitchen.co.uk) Great Taste 1-star: Monterey Gin from Helford River Distillery (www.montereygin.co.uk). Each entry was meticulously blind-tasted by the Guild’s expert judging panel of more than 500 food critics, chefs, recipe creators, buyers, retailers, and other specialists in the field of food and drink. Those who have received 3 stars went on to be judged in a further stage of the competition. The best of those 3 stars from each country or region have been nominated for a Golden Fork, an ‘Oscar of the food and drink world’. The Great Taste Golden Fork winners will be announced in an awards ceremony and tasting at Battersea Arts Centre in London in September. John Farrand, managing director of the Guild of Fine Food comments: “It’s important to us at the Guild to inject some positivity into the speciality food and drink industry. Given the economic headwinds that both independent retailers and small and medium producers are facing, the announcement of the 2024 crop of Great Taste stars is now an annual fillip for us all. It’s not just excellence from the UK, but from across the world, as we celebrate the best from 115 countries. We’re doing our bit for cultural relations across the planet when there is so much legislation trying to prevent it. It’s a real privilege to support and underpin independent makers through the process of Great Taste.” The awards are globally recognised as a mark of excellence and are eagerly sought after by producers and food-lovers alike. www.gff.co.uk/directory NEWS THE FARM TABLE AT DARTS FARM RECEIVES AN OUTSTANDING RATING FROM TRENCHERMAN’S GUIDE Darts Farm has announced that its restaurant, The Farm Table has been awarded higher member status by The Trencherman’s Guide following their first visit. This fantastic accolade, which is only given to restaurants scoring more than 87%, follows hot on the heels of an AA Rosette, which was awarded at the end of last year. Michael Dart, who runs Darts Farm alongside his two brothers, James and Paul, comments, “We are thrilled with the review that The Farm Table has received from The Trencherman’s Guide. To be featured in the guide is one thing, but to receive a higher membership is incredible. It’s a huge landmark for our team, who have worked tirelessly to create a special local restaurant that champions quality ingredients alongside warm hospitality. The AA inspectors were the first of the professional critics to visit and award a rosette and now The Trencherman’s Guide has also recognised us for our hospitality and food.” The Trencherman’s Guide described dining at The Farm Table as “an unpretentious experience delivering first-rate ingredients crafted into well-executed delicious dishes.” They highlighted the “incredible ingredients” saying that “it felt like eating the landscape.” They awarded The Farm Table full points for provenance and a near-perfect score for their food and service. They described how it was a “hidden gem and deserves more promotion so that foodies know it exists.” Michael continues, “When we launched The Farm Table in 2022, we aimed to showcase the best produce available from our farm and food hall and this feedback illustrates that we are doing our fabulous ingredients justice. In its short history, The Farm Table has already been named Best Newcomer in the South West, by readers of Food Lifestyle, been shortlisted for Food and Travel’s Best Restaurant Outside of London, and been awarded an AA Rosette. Being featured in the forthcoming Trencherman’s Guide is another great string to our bow and we’re excited to keep pushing on.” Michael’s son, George, has been instrumental in bringing the original concept of The Farm Table to life and creating the new flagship restaurant. He explains, “Our aim with the launch of The Farm Table was to create a restaurant that would celebrate the simplicity of beautiful ingredients grown, reared, caught and crafted on our doorstep. Produce that cannot be sourced from the farm is provided by our vibrant community of like-minded artisan producers, farmers and fishermen who share our passion for flavour. We have had lots of amazing feedback from our customers, which we prize more than anything but awards from professional restaurant critics are always exciting to receive and reflect the team’s dedication and passion.” The Trencherman’s Guide showcases exquisite and authentic South West dining experiences so that foodies can discover special restaurants that are worth seeking out. Alongside scores from the Michelin and the AA, their experienced food journalists review, rate and assess businesses against a set of quality criteria. Successful applicants are eligible to be in the guide as Members, while those who achieve especially high marks (over 87%) in the scoring process are awarded Higher Membership. This membership is to be celebrated as the entry into a very exclusive club of the crème de la creme. The next edition of the guide will be released in September. The Farm Table is open seven days a week for lunch (from midday until 3 pm) and for dinner (from 6 until 9 pm) Wednesday to Saturday. The menu includes Darts Farm’s iconic Ruby red beef, dayboat fish and seasonal vegetables, all cooked over charcoal and accompanied by a wide selection of wines, beers, ciders and spirits from the cellar. www.dartsfarm.co.uk Nearlywed 9 LOCAL NEWS
