LOVE STORY Jaine Briscoe-Price has been a highly respected name in professional wedding photography for more than 25 years. Having attended 700-plus ceremonies from grand cathedrals to woodland vibes, she has now become an independent wedding celebrant. Her vast experience and outgoing personality mean she’s perfectly placed to offer you a skillfully tailored ceremony that sets the tone and heartbeat of your big day. “Your wedding day should be as extraordinary as the love you share, not a one-size-fits-all affair led by a stranger you’ve never met!” Jaine says. “A celebrant you know, like, and trust turns your ceremony into a wonderful, engaging celebration that feels alive with your story, your vibe, your magic. “Imagine standing in front of your loved ones, guided by someone who gets you, who’s excited about your love story, and who’s designed a ceremony that’s brimming with energy, happy tears, inside jokes, and the heartfelt moments that make your relationship one-of-a-kind; a celebrant who dives deep into who you are as a couple, creating something that’ll have your guests saying, ‘That was so them!’ “You deserve more than a generic, by-the-numbers, ceremony led by an officiant you’ve never met! This is your love story, not just another booking on a calendar. Step away from the beige and into the vibrant with a celebrant who’s just as invested in your happily-ever-after as you are!” Find out more at www.facebook.com/JBPCelebrant Nearlywed NEWS Catch up on the latest from around the region WINNING WAYS The team at Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa are delighted to share that they’ve been awarded Gold for Hotel of the Year at the Wirral Life Awards 2024. EDITOR LOVES Cheshire born artist Jo Gough has always had a passion for painting. Growing up, there was rarely a time when she wasn’t drawing or painting, but she followed her head instead of her heart when choosing a career and worked in IT for her local council for 30 years. But in 2016, Jo finally decided to follow her dreams and devote herself to full time painting, developing her own style with no formal instruction or training. Now, she’s happiest in her studio at home near Chester accompanied by her beloved dog Ted. Nature, flowers and hearts are wonderful sources of inspiration for Jo’s artistic expression. Her work embodies a harmonious blend of realism and abstraction, inviting viewers to delve into the layers of meaning within each piece. Her love for colour allows her to infuse her artwork with vibrancy, energy and a sense of liveliness and she’s passionate about spreading positivity through her art. We think one of her heart prints or original artworks would make the perfect addition to your wedding gift list, so express and display your love in your together home. LOCAL SUCCESS Being an independent retailer is tough but Warrington florist La Beau Fleurs is bucking the trend and is delighted to announce that it has had its membership of the exclusive Good Florist Guide renewed for a fourth time. The Good Florist Guide is the only kitemark of quality in the world that not only checks and accredits all its members before they’re allowed to display the coveted logo but re-checks them each and every year to make sure they’re maintaining standards. This truly meritbased guide to the finest florists in the world is considered the gold standard of floristry, acknowledged as the ‘little black book’ of the very best British and Irish florists and likened to receiving a Michelin star award. It isn’t just the flowers that get checked. La Beau Fleurs had to show that every part of the business is as gorgeous as the flowers, right down to the delivery vehicle, to ensure the strict criteria was met. This means Rachel not only offers gorgeous designs but also boasts the best service and value for bespoke floristry and flowers. Rachel says, “We’re delighted to be accepted into the Good Florist Guide. We’ve been assessed and approved and are now considered to be in the top two per cent in the country! We’re passionate about flowers, design, quality, and the service we give to each of our customers, so it is wonderful to have this recognised. “What’s special about our business is our boundless creativity and enthusiasm! Serving Warrington and Cheshire and beyond since 2015 we love what we do. By offering bespoke floral bouquets and funeral flowers through our retail outlet and designing luxury wedding flowers and installations through Weddings by La Beau Fleurs, we hope to continue to grow, evolve and adapt, in order to push ourselves to be the best for our clients.” Find out more at www.labeaufleurs.co.uk HONEYMOONER’S HAVEN The award-winning Penmaenuchaf in Dolgellau, Gwynedd, has announced the much anticipated second phase of its exciting two-part refurbishment project, set for completion by March 2025. Following completion of phase one in June 2023, which unveiled four beautifully designed suites on the top floor, as well as new kitchens, phase two will introduce five additional suites, crafted with the same attention to detail, along with a new lobby bar area. Penmaenuchaf is an ancient, stone-fronted property situated at the foot of the rugged Cadair Idris and overlooking the Mawddach estuary, offering a charming mountain retreat in the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. The design for Penmaenuchaf is the true definition of ‘hiraeth’, a nostalgia for the place that one’s soul feels most at home. Design will delight in Welsh mythology, incorporating playful references to local myths and legends into the design, and will draw on the history of the house to reimagine the new suites and bar. Penmaenuchaf offers a relaxing mountain retreat. Steeped in history, it’s the perfect choice for honeymooners seeking to explore the local area rich in Welsh myth and legend, and those looking for both a cultural or adventure stay. Alongside a peaceful getaway in one of 13 uniquely designed rooms and suites, guests can enjoy a relaxed dining experience of creative, modern British dishes, headed up by recently appointed Head Chef Dan Andree. Guests dining at Penmaenuchaf can expect menus bursting with flavour, which incorporate high-quality, seasonal produce, and pickings from the hotel’s own kitchen garden and surrounding woodlands. Spanning 21 acres of breathtaking scenery, guests can escape the hustle and bustle of popular tourist spots and immerse themselves in the raw beauty of the surrounding nature, from towering Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon) to the enchanting Swallow Falls. Stays at Penmaenuchaf start from £230 on a bed and breakfast basis. WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM! Founded during lockdown in 2020 by Brian and Deborah Brereton, The Mobberley Ice Cream Co’s passion for ice cream is unparalleled! Disillusioned by the use of generic mixes and uninspiring powders often used to make ice cream, Brian set about making traditional high-quality ice cream using a simple foundation of milk, cream and sugar. Renting space from a local micro-dairy just a mile from their home to test their own recipes, the couple sold their first tub in August 2020 and haven’t looked back. As demand grew, more space to make and store their creations was needed. In April 2023, they opened their own ice cream shop with an in-house kitchen, where their journey continues. Now, you can even book the company’s horsebox ice cream bar for your wedding! What sets Mobberley Ice Cream apart is the dedication to using the finest ingredients – all natural, non-artificial, and predominantly local components, with no shortcuts or artificial additives. We’ve partnered with this local lovely this issue to offer readers complimentary personalised wafers to go with their ice cream on your big day. With ice cream flavours including roasted strawberry buttermilk, sticky toffee pudding, and lemon cream ginger, you’re sure to find the ones to make your day special. To claim, email hellomobberleyice@outlook. com to book and quote WAFER2024. Offer ends 28th February 2025. Find out more at www.mobberleyicecream.co.uk WIN WEDDING JEWELLERY! A TASTE OF Italy Keen travellers Lucy and Matt opted for a relaxed Italian vibe for their big day Images courtesy of Big Day Productions 22
Lucy and Matt met at the MMA Academy in Liverpool where Lucy had joined the Muay Thai class and Matt was a coach and fighter. It wasn’t love at first sight and they took a while to pluck up the (Dutch) courage to take things further on a night out in the City. “It was definitely a case of opposites attract,” Lucy says. “Neither of us was each other’s type, but somehow it seems to work and within a few weeks we were living together!” We fast forward a way into the couple’s relationship. By this time Lucy and Matt had a number of holidays under their belts, although a trip to Menorca for a friend’s wedding wasn’t where Lucy was expecting to receive a proposal of marriage. After some stress hiding the ring in his golf bag, Matt overcame his nerves and got down on one knee within 10 minutes of arriving at their villa. “It was perfectly unplanned and spontaneous, just like Matt,” Lucy remembers. The couple had in mind a secluded location for their big day, somewhere they could enjoy with family and friends in complete privacy. Talhenbont Hall was only their second viewing but they soon decided there was no reason to look anywhere else. They barely made it through the gate before Matt exclaimed: “This is it!” North Wales is one of their favourite places being close to March Loop where they love to camp with their dogs. “So, this felt like the perfect place for us to get married,” Lucy explains. “The whole place was stunning and we could see ourselves saying ‘I do’ outside in the pagoda. After that it was hard to envisage our wedding anywhere else.” The date was set for 31st July 2024. Here, the bride tells us all about it... SETTING THE SCENE Having decided on an Italian theme the couple chose to treat their guests to shots of limoncello as wedding favours. “Many limoncellos have been drunk on our holidays to Lake Garda, so this felt like a great way to toast our marriage,” Lucy explains. For the under 18s they put together sweet bags, and all the girls were given Swiftie bracelets bearing their name since they were celebrating during Taylor Swift’s world tour. Lucy and Matt hired long trestle tables for their preferred vibe, an alternative to the traditional round tables. They also utilised the venue’s mezzanine for their friends – “We put the wild ones upstairs” – to make the most of the space for their 130 guests. The couple weren’t keen on the idea of too many cut flowers with a view to cut waste, so they opted for tall mini olive trees and potted herbs with a sprinkling of colour through flower-filled jam jars and brightly-coloured candles. “We were so lucky that our florist completely got our budget and ambition, and provided lots of suggestions and inspiration to help us get what we wanted,” Lucy says. “Being able to take home plants after the wedding was amazing, we gave lots away to friends and family as they left.” They were also after something simple for their wedding cake and found browsing through Red Rose Cakes Instagram page great for picking out ideas they liked. They chose a three-tier bake in various flavours allowing for options for every taste. This became a feature of the day as they cut it with Lucy’s officer graduation sword from RAF Cranwell. Lucy found Etsy to be a great place to shop for stationery, which is where she found The Last Little Details and selected place names to tie to their menus. “We had a lot of dietaries, so many of our menus were bespoke. This felt more personal, allowing everyone to know what their meal would be.” The table numbers were fashioned from acrylic to match their welcome sign and table plan, made by Zoe Jennifer Design. “I work for a company specialising in supporting small businesses and I loved being able to use small independents wherever possible,” says Lucy. “Sometimes the price is higher, but with that you get amazing attention to detail and craftsmanship.” Other touches included a kids’ basket with toys, games, books, bubbles and colouring – plenty of activities to keep the little ones occupied. was nothing left at the end as they were all able to take something home, which was a real treat for them. FOOD FOR THOUGHT Despite initially being unsure about having canapes before the wedding breakfast with a 12.30pm ceremony, they needed something to keep guests going due to the amount of alcohol flowing! They also hired Ice Cream Dream serving up local North Wales ice cream during the drinks reception. The couple also created a retro crisp wall, inspired by a colleague on Instagram, which they placed at the bar. These proved popular and Lucy was able to sell the frame easily to another bride after the wedding. “For me, food and drink at a wedding is so important, but I’ve not been to many where I can say the food was genuinely outstanding,” Lucy shares. “I’m lucky to have worked with Kim and team at Cheeky Chilli previously, and I couldn’t have been happier with the service and execution on the day.” Indeed, guests are still raving about the reception and how good the food was, so the proof is literally in the pudding (and the other courses!). With the exception of the Thai beef starter, a nod to how they met, the meal fit the Italian theme like a dream. In the evening, Jones Pizza Co stepped in with their wood-fired pizza ovens and cooked up a storm. “Even though people were full from the wedding breakfast, they all found a way to indulge in the pizzas, which were excellent,” Lucy remembers. The local company even personalised the names of the pizzas for the couple’s dogs Poppy and Dexter, who couldn’t be there but love nothing more than sharing the crusts with their humans. LOOKING THE PART When looking for her dream dress, Lucy had something simple in mind and didn’t want to spend too much. Her understated gown was altered to fit beautifully by Angela Hollywood in Ormskirk. And she splurged on a pair of Manolo Blahniks in hot pink for the ceremony. “They finished my vision perfectly,” Lucy says. For the evening the bride changed into some customised Air Force 1s and a short Club London dress. “I knew I’d want to change out of the big white dress, so I thought it would be great to have something more comfortable that reflects my style a bit more – trainers and casual,” the bride explains. Matt was dressed in a dark green suit with sage waistcoat and Air Force 1s. Matt doesn’t generally like being too smart, and with a summer wedding he wanted a more casual relaxed vibe to suit the day. Following the reception, he too got changed. He went for sage chinos and an open, short-sleeved summer shirt to party the night away in. “We tried to stay away from tradition, but little accents like buttonholes for the father-of-thebride and groomsmen brought the whole thing together. The groomsmen also wore Air Force 1s with sage trousers and open collar summer shirts. “It’s hard to find something that everyone likes but we wanted everyone to feel comfortable,” Lucy shares. “We couldn’t have predicted how hot our wedding day was going to be, so we were blessed with weather that fit our dress code!” TIME TO CELEBRATE Becky and Josh provided the ceremony and reception music with Josh on guitar and Becky on vocals. The musical vibes were upbeat with a mix of pop and dance songs. “They were absolutely incredible, performing two 45-minute sets, keeping guests entertained in the sunshine,” Lucy remembers. The bride walked down the aisle to Love On Top by Beyonce, indeed the whole ceremony felt like a celebration. In the evening, DJ Endaf took over on decks and Matt’s firefighter colleagues packed the dancefloor for most of the night. MEMORABLE MOMENTS “Both of us felt stressed and overwhelmed leading up to the day,” Lucy shares. “There’s a lot to do, and a lot of pressure to have the perfect day.” 25 REAL WEDDINGS
