Fear of the unknown can become overwhelming when planning a wedding. After all, it’s not something you do every day! So, we’ve decided to remove that for you when it comes to one of the most important elements of your day – the photography. Here, some of the region’s finest wedding photographers, tell us what to expect from the moment you set out on your planning journey to the time you spend putting your album together. BEFORE THE BIG DAY FINDING THE ONE “Choosing the right photographer can be a difficult decision to make, so it’s vital to find someone you can trust,” say Em and Woz from Em & Woz Wedding Photography (https://emwoz.co). “After all, they need to capture one of the most important days of your life.” Start your research early, discover the work you love, and make a short list of photographers you want to get in touch with. Viewing their work online is all well and good, but you’ll need to know more. Jon Warr from Jon Warr Photography (www.jwarrphotography.co.uk) says, “Photographers are all business people with a marketing head. It’s common to tease with just a few (maybe 30-50) pictures on a website to entice visitors into wanting to see more, encouraging you to enquire. So, don’t be afraid to get in touch and ask about seeing further work. Get to know them a bit and see how they approach you. While you’re there, be sure to ask about their insurances and assurances. Although these things don’t necessarily make a good photographer, they are synonymous with those serious about their business, brand, reputation and giving their clients peace of mind.” Em and Woz continue, “When it’s time to chat with your potentials, note whether they’re listening to your requirements – do you gel and are you both reading off the same page? Wedding photographers aren’t there to dominate you or your day, they’re there to document it as it unfolds without causing stress or being obtrusive. So, meetings are an ideal way to get a feel for whether you’re going to get along. Also, find out what you’re getting for your money. Do they include an engagement shoot or is there any extra cost? Is travel included? How many photographers do they provide? How long will it take for your photos to be processed?” This is all sound practical advice, but at the end of the day when all of this has been taken into account and you still haven’t reached a decision Lloyd and Sophie from We Are Found (www.wearefound.uk) suggest a slightly different approach: “We recommend going with heart over head. Photography is an art form, and you’re going to instinctively know what you love and what’s not for you, so listen to your instincts.” “Like anything, you do get what you pay for and it’s generally recommended that you invest as much as you can afford, 10 to 15 per cent of your budget is a great guide, giving you a figure to work with.” – Jon Warr, www.jwarrphotography.co.uk Some of the region’s finest wedding photographers tell us what to expect from the process at every stage of your wedding journey PICTURE PERFECT https://emwoz.co www.jwarrphotography.co.uk https://emwoz.co PHOTOGRAPHY 51
