Your Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wedding - June/July 2023 (Issue 101)

Julia and Andrew met at a cocktail reception for entrepreneurs. Julia is a business coach and wanted Andrew as a client while Andrew is a CEO and software industry entrepreneur and wanted Julia to be his wife! “I told Andrew that he was too short and wasn’t my type because, as an ex-model, I’m 6ft tall,” Julia tells us. “Andrew is 5ft 9in and is an ex-semi-pro rugby player. Undeterred, he continued his pursuit of me until eventually, I agreed to meet him for drinks at Soho House where I arrived with two of my best friends! Andrew’s persistence and consistency paid off, and eventually I agreed to go on a proper date with him and the rest, as they say, is history.” The couple became engaged during a surprise proposal. Julia tells us, “We had been getting the house ready and packing a suitcase for a trip to the US the following morning and Andrew told me that he was taking me for drinks at the nearby Roux at Skindles to celebrate Christmas. I went to get ready and re-appeared to find champagne and two glasses waiting. Andrew asked me to take a seat and wanted to play a game where I remained silent for five minutes (which is a difficult task for me but I agreed!) He began to play the song Heal the Pain by George Michael and produced a selection of giant cue cards which he used to tell our love story and make a silent wedding proposal. I agreed, and Andrew produced a beautiful Tiffany ring.” SETTING THE SCENE The couple had heard about the wedding venueHedsor House which was only located two miles from their house. Unbeknown to Julia, Andrew had conducted a viewing there and had provisionally booked it for August 7th – the only August date available in 2022! He then told Julia there was a wedding fair just down the road so they attended and Julia fell in love with the venue, at which point Andrew told her it was booked! Julia and Andrew decorated their day with an elegant white theme. They had crisp white table linen, white flowers, hand-written calligraphy place names, and a giant greeting sign with a timetable and table plan. “Our table names were after cars because Andrew is a classic car collector so two of them were displayed outside Hedsor House,” Julia tells us. Julia and Andrew had three wedding cakes, one was gluten-free, one was Vegan cake and one was plain. They also had a cheese wheel cake. 45 REAL WEDDINGS
