Q&A Beauty Our local experts give their advice 365 DAYS OF SUNSCREEN I’m getting married in summer 2025 and have started a skincare regime including cleansing, toning and moisturising. I’ve also been told to use an SPF but I’m not sure if this is necessary in the British, wintry weather! What are your thoughts? Protection from UVA and UVB rays is important all year round, not just during the summer months. UVA and UVB rays can cause premature ageing, photo-aging and decreased skin radiance. Radiation from the sun can contribute to fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin texture, blemishes and uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation - and of course skin cancers. It’s important to protect your skin 365 days a year – yes that’s even in winter - to maintain skin health and radiance. Here at the Coggeshall Skin Clinic, I always recommend Obagi’s Sun Sheild SPF as it contains both chemical and physical ingredients to provide broad spectrum protection against harmful UVA, UVB and infrared rays. Micronised zine oxide protects skin through high UVB absorption and dynamic UVA protection and is also suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin. Obagi even has a tinted SPF 50, giving you a healthy glow but still providing protection! Do you have ideas or styles I should go for to ensure I look great all day? First of all, try not to worry too much as the time you spend outside should be relatively minimal. The photographers will be very conscious of the fact that it’s cold and likely to be a little damp. The products we use are designed to help reduce the effect of the weather on your hair – however, depending on your hair type and the way it reacts can certainly be factored into your desired style. Personally, I’d recommend an updo as it’s much harder wearing in damp conditions and will last the duration (as opposed to down or half-up half-down which could see the curls drop a little). A style like the picture, featured here, is a nice voluminous updo with some tumbling curls. It’s soft and can be seen from all angles so the bride won’t feel completely bare. Another option is a sleek bun for those who prefer a more polished finish. Alternatively, a braid could be a good option.
