An Essex Wedding - May/June 2024 (Issue 116)

I recently visited the Glass House Retreat, located in the picturesque Essex countryside. If you’re considering a pre-wedding pamper, this is the perfect place to go and forget about wedding woes whether you go alone or accompanied with your mum, bestie or your soon-to-be Mr or Mrs. Glass House offers you a sanctuary for those focusing on self-love with mindfulness classes, body and mind nourishment and state-of-the-art facilities. You can even hand your digital devices in at check-in so you can really disconnect with the outside world and focus on you. Treatments & fitness The order of your day can be whatever you want it to be. Whether you want to burn some energy in the hyper-versatile gym followed by a HIIT class; or maybe relaxing in the Finnish sauna, a yoga class or a dip in the natural swimming pool may be more to your taste. As well as these options, there’s a vast treatment menu offering facials, age-busting treatments and an array of massages at the spa. Something different The wellness dome (a custom-made geodesic dome) is the home to a range of workshops and classes including mindfulness and relaxation. Bringing the outside in you can enjoy nature, feel warm and relaxed whilst sinking into the plush beanbags. During my stay, I tried Cryotherapy - and loved it! This is a groundbreaking treatment, popular with celebs and top athletes. Stepping into the icy chamber you can feel your body supercharging as you dance around to your choice of song! Mine was Dolly Parton’s, Jolene! Why? I hear you ask... Well, it’s been said that when your body is exposed to intense cold, remarkable things happen. The benefits of cold therapy are diverse, from soothing muscular injuries and holistically rejuvenating the body, to naturally improving overall mental wellness. A plant-based feast Throughout your stay, you can help yourself at the herb-tea kitchen area! If you want something a little more punchy you can opt for a zingy juice or opt for their fun take on alcohol-free and caffeine-free mocktails! My heart and stomach was full after enjoying a fulfilling three-course meal at their restaurant. Options included Moroccan tagine, nourishing lentil and pepper dahl and tasty mushroom carbonara. I finished with the most delicious silky avocado and chocolate orange mousse – divine. Sleep tight At the end of a relaxing day, don your fluffy robe, slippers and sink into your cloud-like bed. Being away from busy roads and noise you can rest and sleep deeply. A focus on wellness Rachel Westall experienced a much-needed dose of wellness and relaxation at The Glass House Retreat With so much to experience and take in, do opt for a second night (or more!) you won’t regret it!
