Rachel Westall jetted to five-star hotel,Capo d'Orso, on the Italian island of Sardinia. The perfect location for honeymooners– without the jetlag!
The hotel is nestled beautifully into its surroundings. Expect abundant indigenous plants, ancient olive and juniper trees and winding footpaths that have been blended into the landscape. The hotel has access to two beaches that can be reached by foot, Cala Selvaggia and Cala Capra. And if you'd rather relax poolside, enjoy the saltwater pool or book in at the spa. I, however, was drawn to the wooden solariums set just on the seashore, of which there are five to choose from. These sunbathing decks, float on the sea, allowing you to listen to the lapping ocean beneath from the comfort of your sun lounger. Bliss.
L'INCANTU THALASSO WELLNESS CENTRE & SPA
Make the most of your honeymoon and be carried away by the sensations provided by the relaxation and beauty treatments at the L'Incantu Thalasso Wellness Centre & SPA. Here, you can enjoy an open-air massage, a facial or relax in the exclusive pool. Not your average dip, the three pools offer varying degrees of temperature whether you want to step into cool, tepid or warm waters. The hydromassage jets help to ease tired muscles and aid circulation.
ITALIAN CUISINE
Breakfast at Capo d'Orso is meant to nourish your body and soul as you sip your morning coffee whilst listening to the glorious melodies of a live harpist. The floating deck, Île Flotante, is a dreamy restaurant setting for seafood lovers. Enjoy the catch of the day with a glass of crisp, white wine and ocean views. Furthermore, enjoy fine seafood and traditional Sardinian cuisine at Il Paguro with impressive views of the private marina. People-watch as locals and holiday-makers come and go from their yachts and speedboats. I enjoyed a traditional dish of Fregola Sarda, a couscous style pasta with clams and mussels, full of flavour. And, if you're looking to enjoy a slice of pizza whilst in Italy, Capo D'Orso has you covered with pizzeria, L'Approdo, which offers its delicacies cooked in a woodfired oven.
EXPLORING SARDINIA
The hotel takes its name (Bear Cape) from the striking bear-shaped rock that looks over the Straits of Bonifacio. One of Sardinia's most famous rocks, it was declared a natural monument in 1993 and is well worth taking the time to stretch your legs and explore. Standing 120 metres above sea level, it offers breathtaking views over the islands of the La Maddalena Archipelago and the nearby town of Palau. The hotel offers many excursions, whether you wish to take the short 45-min boat trip to neighbouring Corsica, or fancy visiting the vibrant nearby town of Palau where a shuttle service runs from the hotel daily. There are daily mini cruises at your service as well as kayaks and paddleboards to hire, you'll be spoilt for choice.
